Today, 1835, in the town of Canaan in the “live free or die” state of New Hampshire, a drunken mob of approximately 500 destroyed the integrated Noyes Academy. The Academy was one of two schools in the country founded by abolitionists and the first upper level coed interracial school in the United States. The student body consisted of 28 white students and 14 African Americans including future leaders of note such as Henry Highland Garnet and Alexander Crummell. As news of the opening of the school spread, anti-abolitionists from the area posted road signs directing travelers to Nigggertown.” The pro-slavery newspaper The New Hampshire Patriot carried the following article: “Since the establishment of the school, it has been no uncommon spectacle to witness colored gentlemen walking arm in arm with what ought to be respectable white females. And that respectable people opposed to the school, as well as others, have been invited to parties where the colored portion of the school were also invited guests.”The mob used 100 oxen to pull the school off its foundation and drag it a mile down the road. Good to see you, my friend. Yes, they drug the learning center from its foundation… .
It shows the depravity and inhumanity that pervaded the era.
Folks like the Alabamians—I’m sure you saw the melee—have not learned what life is really about, meanwhile.

So why can't black people pull themselves up by their bootstraps, eh? And remember that kind of racist violence and ethnic cleansing happened all over the American landscape.. Again, why can't black folks lift themselves up by their bootstraps, whites keep asking? WhatEVAR!

Debbie -- you're the "dear" Alabamian in our camp, one of my favorite people. I'm talking about the one's you've pointed out like the GOP politicians; the modern Bull Conners, who attempted to make it difficult for Blacks and poor people to vote. A few years ago you posted about how they were trying to put voting places in the far reaches of the counties where those without automobiles would essentially have a hard time getting to the polls.
And of course the good ole boyz who charged the security guard/captain on the dock. Now, they may have done the same thing to a white guy, but given Alabama and the South's history, you would think they'd think twice about assaulting the brother.
People who are not constructive have not learned what life is about. My mantra is "Kingdomizing"; expanding God's way of doing things in the Earth.

New Hampshire was known for having only house slaves (no plantations) or slaves working at the shipyard. A number of laws in N.H prohibited Black slaves from roaming through town without their master's permission, from being abroad in the night time after nine o'clock, and from drinking in public taverns.
Wow, Whites even in the north were always against integration, yet when Blacks like NOI asked for total separation and have their own states then it wasn't acceptable. Very bizzare!! LOL
