GM, you keep talking about "Western Sahara", But how about "St Andrés Island" in the Caribbean??

Can't believe GM and his Island ambassador both went all the way to North Africa to focus on the Western Saharan problem with Morocco, but ignored or probably have no idea on the ongoing "Colombia's" oppression and colonisation of these 3 Caribbean Black Islands(St Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina) at home. Their native people are known as the "Raizals" and are of pure African descent or mulattoes of African and British descent. They speak English(patois) like Jamaicans, they are truly part of the Caribbean family but "OWNED" by Colombia. They have Colombian passports but most of them don't even speak Spanish. Bear in mind that St Andrés Island was a British colony at the begining-->lol
Sir, Colombia is no different from Morocco in this aspect, I mean, you and the Island ambassador need to FREE these Black folks from Colombia's domination and discrimination, I swear. See, you have a Western Papua issue right in the middle of the Caribbean Islands, sir. LOL, now, does Brotha Westtt even heard of St Andrés and Providence Islands? LOL, maybe not.
Now let me school your fake Island ambassador about the St Andrés, providencia and Santa Catalina Islands self determination.
In 1903, the local Raizal population of the Providencia and Santa Catalina Islands rejected an offer from the United States to separate from Colombia and to imitate Panama.
Towards the late 1960s, separatist movements became active in the archipelago. The first separatists, an underground movement, were led by Marcos Archbold Britton, who addressed a memorandum to the United Nations asking for the inclusion of the archipelago in the list of colonized territories. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees paid a private visit to the archipelago shortly afterwards, arousing suspicion in mainland Colombia.
The second movement, which started in the late 1970s, grew stronger in the following decade, and culminated in the creation in March 1984 of the Sons of the Soil Movement (S.O.S.), openly claiming the right to self-determination.
Since 1999, another organization, the Archipelago Movement for Ethnic Native Self-Determination for the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providence and Santa Catalina, a radical separatist movement led by Rev. Raymond Howard Britton, has demanded the creation of an independent state.
There are now, according to a document from the Colombian government, two trends among the Raizals: a radical one, the Pueblo Indígena Raizal, represented by the Indigenous Native Organizations, among whom Amen, Barraca New Face, Infaunas (a Rastafarian-inspired group of farmers and fishermen), Ketna (Ketlënan National Association) and the SOS Foundation, and a more moderate one, Comunidad Raizal (Native Foundation and Integración Básica) led by former governors who are friends of the Colombian establishment, mainly Felix Palacios, Carlos Archbold and Alvaro Archbold N. The latter group is understandably more ready to participate in bipartite institutions set up by the Colombian authorities.
On April 28, 2002, the Raizal people signed a declaration of self-determination and asked the Colombian government and the International Court of Justice for a major recognition of their autonomy and for appropriate resources to improve the quality of life in the island.
FYI, I was watching a documentary today on these 3 Black Caribbean Islands who are still colonized by Colombia and guess what?? At the migration border of St Andrés Island those Black Authorities refused to even let an Afro-Colombian tourist into their territories. Even a Black Colombian from the mainland was refused entry to their 3 Islands because he's Spanish and have a different culture, hahahaha, its soo serious.
Anyway, Mr Island ambassador should get fired and shot at for not letting this story out. lol
Re: GM, you keep talking about "Western Sahara", But how about "St Andrés Island" in the Caribbean??
You did your homework on this, Mr TheOne.. And it provided great bits of history.. Props!
I wouldn't compare it, politically, to Western Sahara but I get your mischievous point.. Since they are more of a "department" issue vs a "municipality" one, i'd compare them more like a Puerto Rico/USA/Vieques kind of situation. STILL..
It's great reading for such small bits of landmass.. Of course the usual Columbus villains make appearences, including Kris himself during his fourth voyage, pirate Henry Morgan shows up, the great Simone Bolivar makes an appearance in the region.. Didn't know so many of the fukkking English Puritans who landed in Barbados made their way to those islands.. Didn't know so many Jamaican slaves were transferred there.. And etc etc etc..
... Oprah probably has never heard of these islands otherwise she'd be making land grabs all over St Andres or Providencia or Santa Catalina.. that dirty capitalist colonizer. There!
The Native Black Islanders of San Andrés, Colombia and their Social challenges.(VIDEO)
Yes, the "St André" Islanders have something in common with Western Saharans, West Papuans, Puerto Ricans, Palestinians, Hawaiians, Basques, Tibetans, etc..they all wanna be(or at least half of their populations) "independant" from their occupiers and don't really identify with their occupiers.
In the case of St André Island, they were cleary sold to Colombia by the Brits in 1822. So, politically part of Colombia, and historically tied to the United Kingdom.
Man, Jamaican slaves were not only transferred to St André and providence Islands but also transferred to Costa Rica back then,.. even in Costa Rica today you have a part of the Black population who is not Spanish, they are strictly English speakers and are descendants of Jamaicans. Poors Jamaican slaves, it seems they have been used as slaves in a few different Islands other than Jamaica, as well as in central America. Not fair!! Do you know how hard it is to be an english speaking slave and then out of the blue start dealing with a new massa who speaks spanish only. Thats exactly what happened to those poor Jamaican slaves. Anyway, never heard of Slaves from Mississippi being taken to work in Panama or Brazil. Happened only to Jamaican slaves. As if Kris didn't feel like going all the way to West Africa to replenish and bring in new fresh slaves. He had to use the ones he already brought in to Jamaica. Bastard!!
