G, I know you have never heard of Benkos Biohó(photo below), nor read about him, but he was a slave leader of an emancipation movement and emblematic Afro-Colombian figure.
He was a maroon who fought tirelessly for the liberation of slaves in Colombia. He created the Palenque de San Basilio, a FREE Village populated by free slaves since "1619" to this day in Colombia,.. what?? I can't believe it coz "1619" was indeed the year where slavery had just begun in North America, Virginia!!! This is insane even for Haitians who earned their freedom and independence only until 1804. Anyways, Afro-Colombians of Palenque town are definitely the 1st free Blacks in the entire American continent which includes the Caribbean Islands. And with this being said Afro-Colombians have their own 1619 "Juneteenth" and its the oldest one too,..I swear!!!
