Angela Davis is still a force to be reckoned with.
This past September she spoke to a massive crowd at the festival of l’Humanité, the newspaper of the French Communist Party.
People's World (posted below) has a great report on her at the event. She, too, sees the importance of a Harris presidency. I was also struck by the remark made by Johanna Fernandez, who shared the stage with Davis:
“Black women are so marginalized in society that Kamala’s candidacy means something spiritually to Black women.
“But when you reach that level,” nominee of one of the two major parties, you have to be the face of capitalism, militarism, and neo-colonialism. Harris has told us she will be that face, that she will build the most lethal military apparatus ever.”
"As dangerous as that reality is, however, there’s more to think about: Harris is not a fascist, and the other person running for president is.”
I continue to admire Angela Davis and she isn't new to the Palestinian struggle - been true to it ever since! LOL.. I still remember how the Zionists tried to block her receiving the Fred Shuttlesworth Humanitarian Award from the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute in Alabama. Such audacity!
I don't think Black women see something spiritual about Kamala becoming president, that's feminist talk. Much the same way Black men didn't feel any spiritual uplift in Obama becoming president.
I thought she'd given up on the Communist thing, but is still holding on. Anyway...
Angela Davis supported Barack Obama, so no surprise she's backing Kamala, though reluctantly. To her it's all about buying time & space for more activism to change the system, but I don't buy that.
What that logic doesn't change is that the Biden/Harris administration is the one supporting & funding the genocide of Palestinian people as we speak. Sure, be afraid of the potential Trump fascism but what about Netanyahu's fascism being fed by both Biden & Kamala? This is the debate fracturing progressive politics.
I think Kamala's campaign elicits strong emotions to Black women, which, I too, would describe as spiritual. Think of it, there are many women alive today who have had grandmothers that were not allowed even to vote, let alone run for president. Our 19th amendment was not passed until 1920.
And i need not get into other forms of discrimination that women have endured over their lifetimes.
And yes that is feminist talk. Why? because both Angela and Hernandez are diehard feminists. LOL!!!

Most Black women don't relate to Kamala Harris that way. Please remember how her 2020 campaign failed because the Black community, with emphasis on black women, didn't relate to her - found her to be inauthentic. Now that she's running for president as the democratic party nominee, and as the 1st Black woman, the vibes are different but not in a spiritually uplifting way. Just saying.
