Definitely Not Kalena Bovell of New Britain, Connecticut,.. because in the 2nd video below Ms Chiquinha Gonzaga shattered all this myth, she was an Afro-Brasilian born in 1847 was composer and the first recognised female conductor in the country. Her main instrument was the piano, and she composed her first piece when she was aged 11. After a turbulent marriage, she devoted her time to composition, and became known as a prolific composer of many different styles, including tangos, waltzes and polkas. They said she was 100 years ahead of her time. She passed away in 1935.
And Who The Heck Was Rudolph Dunbar?? Goshhhhh (photo) LOL!!
In the photo below, Dunbar made history in September 1945 when he conducted the Berlin Philharmonic. The first time a Black conductor(From Guyana) had done so in the orchestra's then-65-year history.
Signed: Adolf Hit-The Ground. Splaaaaaat!!

Kalena Bovell is also a poet and seems to have a social consciousness & racial awareness, kinda. LOL, she's also into Heavy metal music...huhh?!
Rudolph Dunbar was even more talented & gifted.. Dude conducted all over Europe, including Germany, Poland, Russia etc etc. Then settled in London for a while and became part of a group of Caribbean intellectuals who spoke out against racism & colonialism which led to the BBC blacklisting him. Those wicked bastards! I suspect he was also Gay, which contributed to his career being sabotaged. .. he conducted a "Plantation Orchestra"...Wtf!?
He also spent some time in New York, Harlem to be exact, where he got involved in the Jazz scene. No doubt Dunbar was talented as hell.

LOL, really? She's into Heavy Metal Music too?? Classical Music and Heavy Metal go two different directions however at some point the only similarities that I hear between these two genres are that they both make sound waves when played.
And what do you think of Chiquinha Gonzaga?? She was out there in Brazil killing it like 167 years before Kalena Bovell showed up.
Indeed Rudolph Dunbar was like the "Paul Robeson" of conducting concerts of classical music back in those very difficult times for Black ppl. Now I cannot believe that he was also the "James Baldwin" of classical Music if your suspicion of him being gay was real. LOL!! Rudolph Dunbar was a great man.
