James Jamerson was considered the "God" of bass. He was like the Mohammed Ali of bass,... James Jamerson was indeed the Michael Jordan of bass, or the Arthur Ashe of bass. ANyway he played for some of the best and famous singers and musicians on the planet, like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, the Supremes, the Temptations, etc etc...not to mention the number of Bassists who were influenced by him, one of them is Paul McCartney, as well as Jermaine Jackson(MJ's brother) etc,...I'm just discovering this guy,...wow, impressive!!
Re: Who Remembers Bassist James Jamerson?? (videos)
Never heard of Mr. Jamerson. Great Bassists and drummers seem to labor in obscurity. I'll never forget meeting Ed Thigpen, the great jazz drummer. He was elderly but still played well. I was floored by his talent. He made beats that i never heard before. Incredible. I bet Jamerson had the same skill on the bass. Thanks, theone. Very enlightening!

Never heard of him but given those he's influenced, speaks for his legendary status. I've always felt my favorite bass guitar players were Mel Shacher who played for Grand Funk Railroad (dude use to storm!!), Larry Graham of Sly Stone, Ashton Barrett (Bob Marley) etc. I don't like bass players who are too Jazzy or play like lead guitarists. Yuck!
