Omar Fateh: a Minnesota Mamdani?

Apparently a Democratic Socialist has won a primary race for Mayor in Minnesota..
His name is Omar Fateh, a Somialian, and a self-proclaimed Socialist..
Lol.. when did this happen?

Frankly, i'm about to check his political bio but I don't think he's bold as Zohran Mamdani..

LOL, usually Kris & the Great Black Discoverer do not miss such a story, so what's up with that?

To be honest Kris has discovered him when he was still competing to get elected and also Kris introduced him to theone, but theone said Omar Fateh(photo below) kinda reminded him of Ilhan Omar and he got pissed off and refused to post him on LLC. LOL

Maybe theone's attitude towards Mr Fetah is wrong. Also guess who endorsed him? Al Sharpton!!

Anyway this Muslim candidate(Omar Fateh) has promised a more progressive approach than the incumbent Jewish mayor, Jacob Frey. LOL, good lawwd!

Wow!! How did I miss this. Thanks gm. Young Omar is not only a good socialist, but also a card-carrying member of Minnesota's Farmer and Labor Party.

I go way, way back with this party. My very first recollection of socialism was my great uncle, who was part of the Hubert Humphrey wing (conservative) of that party.

He had a poster in his kitchen that said Joe must go, referring to Wisconsin senator Joe McCarthy.

Sadly that wing devolved slowly and became part of the Democrats. He (Uncle Leo) and I, in later life, would have some heated arguments on HHH and LBJ's complicity in the Vietnam War.

Sad to say that he would be amazed if he were alive to see Omar in his once beloved party. LOL!! He could tell some God-awful racist jokes, which would irk the hell out of mom.

I haven't met Omar Fateh. He is currently a state senator, in Minnesota. He obviously has the political infrastructure to win. It would be fascinating to see him as mayor.

I'm spending a lot of time in Chicago, at this point. I got to meet Mayor Brandon Johnson last night. The brother is the real deal. He was clear in his talk with the audience, at Operation PUSH, on his dissatisfaction with people who protest against "indigenous" immigrants, (Latinos), but are mum when it comes to Ukrainian immigrants. He was also clear on his feelings about ongoing "white supremacy."

Lol...for some reason Les isn't aging...what's going on here?

I saw Rev Sharpton interview Omar Fateh and he was kinda making nice with him, but at one point Omar used the word genocide to describe what Israel was committing in Gaza, and Sharpton kinda blushed - Sharpton has avoided using that work. Ha, MSNBC's internal politics, I guess.

re. Mayor Brandon Johnson: he is getting some pretty negative press on mainstream media, especially on Fox. I think it's in response to his wearing a 'kaffiyeh' at an activist gathering in the city etc. The antisemitic label was thrown at him. Smh

It will be really great to have the first Democratic Socialist President of the United States. If it happened things might start positively changing locally as well as internationally.

btw, not surprising that some of my most influencing political figures & activists were 'socialists', from Stokely to Walter to Malcolm(after leaving NOI, even during blk natlism) to Jackson to Bishop to Manley etc etc. Anyway...

Funny you mentioned Harry and mom. Just last week my cousin Nancy from Winona, who is my age, said she heard Harry on the radio and immediately thought of mom, too. LOL! Speaking of cousin Nancy and my political background, True story: She is the daughter of my dad's brother, Lambert, who married an absolute knockout of a gal, Cecilia. She was a brilliant, charming lady who hob knobbed with all the political elite of Minnesota in the 5o's, 60's, and 70's. She attended all of the conventions and was seated front and center in the Minnesota delegations. My cousin Nancy in 1978 paid a visit to her mom (Cecilia) one afternoon. She went in the back door to the living room and sitting on the sofa was as she told me lol was "Walter fucking Mondale!!!" Ha!!!
He was in the area and stopped by to say hi to Cecilia. Also, at my uncle leo's funeral in Winona, Hubert Humphrey called the funeral parlor to give sympathy to all the family. I was in Thailand at the time. That was when he was Vice President under LBJ. LOL

Les, gm, I've always been more interested in the organizing and mobilizing effort. Also, public speaking has never been a talent of mine. Further, i am terrorized speaking in front of a group of 3 or more people, LOL! Gm, have you ever thought about it? You are extremely knowledgeable, well read and good at expressing your point. I dread facing off with you when we disagree. And Les, you are a natural at public speaking. Charming as all get out, too.
