My finding the Jamaican song was pure serendipity. I know nothing more about it than you do, gm. And what a pity about Smokey Robinson. My posting of that was all about Aretha and her incredible voice. She sang it better than Smokey. Just like she sang Respect better than Otis. LOL!!! Still chuckle at Otis' quote on her version: "That girl done stole my song". Ha! Ha!! she sure did!!

The image is of a march by the WPJ = Workers Party of Jamaica!
They were a Marxist-Leninist bunch of Jamaican brianiacs who founded the party!
Trevor Munroe & Elean Thomas were key founders and i'm a fan of them both.
Munroe is still alive and still a bit radical.
Elean was a poet too and unfortunately passed a away in 2004..RIP

😆🤣..I had no idea of their Marxist-Leninist history. As a matter of fact, in most of Trevor's bios that part of his life is missing. I guess the Marxist/Leninist thing really fell out of vogue in Jamaica. Trevor even comes across as a capitalist today. Lawwd.

Ha, I just had to find out the history behind that video image. Great stuff!!

Paul Robeson had a powerful voice, both musically and politically. The tune he sings in this you tube video was written for the Federal Theatre Project production, "Sing For Your Supper" that opened in April of 1939. Congress responded to the project's racial integration and accusations of Communist infiltration and cancelled its funding effective June 30, 1939.
