Every time I come across such an important lost and the history of that person, i'm kinda filled with sadness because of the realization of how the Black community in general neglects the Black experience and the lessons to be learnt from it.
I can pretty much guarantee you that a survey would show that about 90% of Black folks wouldn't know her name (me included) nor of the history she represents. Sure, many would have heard of the Tulsa Massacre but not of individuals like Viola Ford Fletcher.
And let's see: we've got lots of Black elected officials in Congress, lots of top ranking officials in administrations, we've had a Black vice president, we've had a Black president...and umm, any reparations yet? Just asking for someone.
