There is a good reason when someone takes custody of a mentally ill person, it is often referred to as **guardianship** or **conservatorship** and the hospital I once worked in once was forced to do it because even the daughter was mentally ill. The legal arrangement allowed them to be designated legal guardians to make decisions on behalf of the medically and terminally ill person.

Just has to be done sometimes.
