If she has an executor for her estate, they are legally bound to exercise in her best interests, not theirs, for her needs. Up to and including selling the home, if there is no legal binding draft like a will.
Nursing home expenses most always draw from any assets before the Medicare/Medicaid disbursement, which can entail selling the home often. When there is no immediate responsible family to engage in the care plan, material assets are the first to go sadly.
I've had cases that would break your heart when it comes to money, material, and managing care through services or theiving family members. One glaring and oft times example is they take the person's social security, inheritance, or retirement funds for themselves in the guise of being " caretakers" while they indulge themselves and leave the patient in bare minimum conditions... it's a sad statement on how terrible things can be . But they indeed are out there.. as bad as email scammers or phony solicitors.
Hope she gets good care and opportunity to reverse her illnesses
