I looked this up - did you know she is known for the quote "make it a rule of life never to regret and never to look back. Regret is an appalling waste of energy; you can't build on it; it's only good for wallowing in." Katherine Mansfield
Certainly there are themes of 'not everything is as it seems'...also the instinctual "I don't want it until you do" re: desiring her husband again - only to find out he was having an affair with the woman she herself was drawn toward.
Bliss is such a relative topic - that is why I tossed out Campbell's assertions.
You could divide a room full of people up into different views - those who believe there is nothing wrong with creating their own reality (only seeing what they wish - or "it will be what I make it") and the other part of the room will be convinced that everything happens TO them - beyond their control. Or a fatalist.
I imagine there are euphoric bubbles - but, in my view, they would not be sustainable when one remains engaged with life. On the other hand - in terms of the political world - gosh there are layers and layers this could be sewn in - for instance, both the right and the left have tunnel vision and seldom see what is coming.
What brought Mansfield's story to your thoughts?
If it was something in world events that triggered it - we may be a bit like minded - as no matter how often it is denied - I hear the drum beats of war. So many believe that all the struggle is over on election night. Not at all - the struggle has just begun. I desperately want to be wrong. Further, election night was a very short euphoria - as I have not ever believed one man will save all.
If 'bliss' were to be in terms of message boards - we have created a third world - it is not real life - it is not NOTHING - it is something in between and bliss would be fleeting.
But please do share with me what brought the word 'bliss' to your mind.
