They aren't required. If a person does a good job and their boss gives them a bonus, it is taxed just like the rest.

Tips are earned income, just like bonuses.

I agree in part on Social Security. I don't think it should be taxed until the recipient has gotten back all the money they personally put in. Then it is fair game, just like any company pension plan.
