2. It needs to be more affordable. I do advise an immigration lawyer but those fees are daunting.
3. I'm all for background checks as part of the asylum process (that may already be in place, not sure)
4. The current immigration laws remain largely unchanged since 1990, and do not reflect the realities of today's economy and global migration patterns.
Other issues that need to be addressed:
- Quotas on nationalities—the law micromanages immigrant demographics (note there are several other quotas. Since 1990, Congress has not updated the quotas for the legal immigration system )
- As you experienced There’s a limit for immigrants with “extraordinary ability
- No temporary visas at all for year-round workers without college degrees.
- No immigration category for entrepreneurs. and No way to create new immigration categories without congressional action.
- Children of temporary workers grow up here, wait in line with their parents for permanent residency, and get kicked out of line on their 21st birthday.
- Immigrants generally cannot apply for permanent residency on their own. U.S. immigration law has no mechanism for immigrants without sponsorship by an employer or family members
- Spouses and children of temporary workers are banned from working, so they cannot contribute
There's more but you get the idea
