They were all huge, two in Australia and one in Haiti.
The first one appeared LARGELY when I rolled down the metal garage door and the big hairy legs appeared. I rolled the door back up and ran up the stairs and into the house. My hubby got to “handle” it.
In Australia the toilet had its own separate tiny room. I opened the door and prepared to sit, iand saw a huge tarantula on the back of the tiny door. I don’t remember what happened after that.
In Haiti we were staying with a missionary family who had three of the cutest little boys you ever saw. Like most missionary kids they were quite at home in their environment. In Haiti it was common to dig holes to bury some of the trash, so hole digging was a common activity. The kids had devised a system where (if I remember correctly) they would dig holes and and while they dug one hole a tarantula would come up out of another one. So, I watched fascinated as they “played” Haiti style.
The littlest boy seemed shy and in three days had never spoken a word to me. We were all outside having a barbecue. The boys had washed their hands after their digging game when suddenly I felt something crawling up the calf of my left leg. I froze and when I turned to see what it was I saw the cutest twinkly eyes and big smile of the shy one taking his cupped fingers away from my left leg.
That one didn’t count as a sighting, but I had witnessed them in rhe game they played.
Great memories.
