I just read a headline suggesting that a musical piece was “scientifically engineered” to cause a specific emotion. It made me recall a long ago event when my friend Rosie from Pennsylvania and I from Missouri were sitting on a parade ground in France, where we lived, when a parading bagpipe troupe began playing “California, Here I Come”. Both of us broke out in tears, obviously triggered by a sense of homesickness. (Neither of us had ever seen California.)

I can’t remember how many times since, we chuckled thinking about the girl from Pennsylvania and the girl from Missouri, living in France crying, hearing “California, Here I Come”.

Prophetic after all as I moved here and she visited.
