...my wife is a very intelligent woman. She ran - okay, drove - to the local Sears store many years ago to get a replacement battery for our boat. I was working on it trying to get it ready for our first outing of the season. Well, she drove up and got out of the car with a plastic shopping bag in her hand. She held the bag up and declared "Here you go." I was dumbfounded. She just handed it to me as if it weighed nothing because it did weigh almost nothing.

Turns out she bought the empty plastic display battery. She took it to a checkout and the person there dutifully rang it up, bagged it and sent her on her way. She thought I needed to add the water to make it work. When I took the empty case back the shop manager and a couple of mechanics laughed mercilessly as they repeated what I told them "You won't believe what somebody sold my wife."

My wife would not go back into the store for a month afterward after she showed up and heard them still joking about it.
