WJB was NOT a biblical literalist, but a strong anti-racist.
Scopes VOLUNTEERED to be the test case for the anti-evolution law and was never jailed.
Darrow and the ACLU were very UNHAPPY about the final non-guilty verdict which resulted on a technicality. They wanted a GUILTY verdict, so that they could appeal it to the Supreme Court and establish a national precedent.
About the only thing that the movie got right was the intolerable heat during the trial.
