There is supposed to be a part 3 coming soon...
Not buying the "making humanity a multi-planet species" motivation. Why leave one gravity well, only to trap yourself in another. Far better to be independent of terrestrial worlds, and make humanity a space-based, space-faring civilization.
To do that, we need to stop sending geology missions to mars, and instead send industrial missions. We need to stop taking photos of rocks, and start extracting primary, secondary & tertiary metals from martian rocks. Adapt every industrial process that we use on Earth, so that it can be used in space, in micro- or zero-gravity, to make everything we need from asteroids, or moons. Or, just recycle every old thing we have into new things with 100 percent efficiency, including habitat modules. And do it in space.
If we can live, not just survive, but thrive in space indefinitely, without even touching a terrestrial planet, we will then survive the death of our Sun. We will be able to travel the galaxy and see what is "out there".
