First of all, option #1 rocks. But if that doesn't work, I would go with option #3, because artillery shells must be relatively cheap, a cloud of gas can expand so targeting doesn't have to be so accurate, and hitting a cloud of gas at 17,000 mph would be like hitting a brick wall. So, I like this idea.
