Re: Todays Header.
Elizabeth (Betty) the header is the one we went to. It was more rightly called School Street Methodist Chapel, now demolished. The other, on High Lane Row was the Primitive Methodist Chapel, still standing but looking derelict by the photo that James has just put up. Neither were ever referred to as the 'Colliery' Chapel as that would have been very confusing because they were both in the colliery area.
You might say that the mass exodus from that place to the new estates did nothing for the Methodist Movement but the writing was perhaps already on the wall. I find that congregations are pitifully small these days and reflected by the closer of countless churches and chapels all over the country. Just a few more dwindling memories.
