Several years after retiring from the army, a general chanced upon his former orderly (Geordie) in the street. They chatted for a while and eventually the general persuaded him to come and work for him as a valet. “It will be just like the old times,” the general enthused. “You’ll soon learn the ropes because your duties will be exactly the same as they were in the army. Just do the same as you did back then and you’ll be fine.” Geordie decided to accept the job offer. So on his first morning at work, at seven o’clock sharp, the Geordie entered the ex-general’s bedroom, opened the curtain and gently woke the general. He then walked around the other side of the bed, slapped the general’s wife on the back-side and said, “Reet now hinney, it’s back to the village for ye.”
