It’s a small world, and many of us have heard of the Six degrees of separation theory, wherein any person on the planet can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than five intermediaries… but, putting that theory aside, fact is always better than fiction...
As we know, our great aunts and uncles are very closely related to us… mine are all gone now, but in the 70s a few of them were living in Hebburn and I remember them so clearly… it just seems like yesterday.
My headmaster at St Oswalds school, Hebburn, was Mr Cecil Emmerson (a delightful man) - so it was a lovely surprise to discover, last night, whilst searching my family history, that his great aunt and uncle, James H. Emmerson & Annie Elizabeth Weatherall (married Hebburn, 1897), were also my mother’s great aunt and uncle – how good’s that?
It's such a small world that you might easily speak to a relation today without even realising it.
