If you go into a car showroom they will try to sell you their latest versions.
A relation who is a caravaner has a Honda CRV ? 2.2 he is thinking of buying a new one ( or was) . A salesman at aHonda dealership went all through the blurb how good the new version is. When asked about pulling a caravan, yes it will it’s got ? Turbo ?.
What the salesman failed to understand is that the curb weight is now to light and engine capacity too small.
I have been towing since 1970, trailers, boats and caravans.
My current car is a Kia Sorento 2.2 and they were Tow Car of the Year for quite a few years (or its Hyundai version).
Never ever buy a car or caravan that the match is much over the 85% rule. 90% the max. And do not go higher.
The old saying nowt like cubic inches still rules.
Regarding the Sportage I loved the one of about 4 years ago which looked simm to the Sorento. Then they did a “facelift” it spoilt the car.
I rate my Sorento as an excellent tow car. The only downer is that seats 3,4&5 do not fold flat. Bought because of being 4x4 for snow where we live, however not needed the 4x4 for the last 4 years.
My best tow car was the Vectra SRi 3.0 estate that I part x’d for Sorento. Tyres on Vectra 14,000 Sorento @40,000.
I have to say that I do travel long distances towing the caravan. Nearly every year we do 2 trips to the south of France which is a 2000 or 1500 6 day journey (round trip) distance change is when using Dover or Hull.
