A recent re-run of a comedy show was about having electric and phone cut off because the husband had "spent" the money in a betting shop. There are many ways that people aren't careful with their spending. Sky TV, smart phones and gambling are just obvious examples that spring to mind, but when these same people have to resort to food banks and benefits, it seems a bit unfair. I know not everybody on the breadline is careless or deliberate with overspending, but those that are, bring everybody under suspicion. When I was young I was taught to save up for what I wanted and avoid getting into debt. It is a shame that these lessons no longer seem to be getting across.
By the way, when I became disabled I was too old to claim any mobility assistance. At the time, over 65s couldn't get Disability Living Allowance which had a mobility and a care component, so I was only able to claim Attendance Allowance. Obviously over 65s don't need to be mobile!
Old age is not without other than obvious age-related problems
