I have just watched Armchair Britain on BBC1 hosted by Miriam Margolyes where she looked at one of her favourite cities - Newcastle. I learned a couple of new facts for instance the origin of pease pudding (which I still love to buy from the Grainger Market).
It was 30 minutes of wonderful nostagia and covered various items such as the bridges, the industry, the shopping. (remember the Handyside Arcade?) and of course the football.
Also the visitors to the area in the 60s and 70s - Martin Luther King and president Jimmy Carter were shown.
Worth watching if you get the opportunity.
