I bought a HB 90 Viva in Jan of 1968. The only problem was the valve springs when travelling from Hebburn to Harrogate each week. My Dad got used to driving down to usually the Catterick area to tow me to Harrogate Vauxhall dealer on a Sunday evening.
I went through 10 sets of valve springs. In the finish they replaced the cylinder head. It appears that the spring seating was not at 90 degrees. To the valve stems and also the valve rocker studs would occasionally snap or the nut that held the rocker in place would loosen due to faulty self locking part of the nut.
In the finish I bought a modified head from Bill Blydenstein at Royston in Camebridge area. By ! did that head improve the performance.
