The following information is from the book, The Streets of Hebburn; if you can help update or correct it, please let me know, thank you:
AFTON HOUSE: Sat beside Heathfield House, and although both were on the same parcel of land as Langley Villas, they sat away from it. Built in or before 1881. Afton House demolished c.1952.
These 3 properties were just off the present Victoria Road West, up Tharsis Road at the left side of the bend, which was then a T-junction. The properties were north side of the left arm of the ‘T’. Replaced by Reyrolle buildings. Now part of High Croft Close, which is encircled by North Drive.
In 1850, this land was named ‘High Field’; occupied by Mary Davison, and leased from landowner Cuthbert Ellison.
Named after: Possibly River Afton, in Ayrshire, Scotland.
