In trawling around looking for various information I found this 21 minute film which is stored jointly with Yorkshire Film Archive and North East Film Archive, ID No.NEFA21578. I had some difficulty getting it to surface a second time but found that if you go into the website and type Hebburn Palmers in the box, then press submit, you will get a small picture of workmen standing in the entrance gates of Hebburn Palmers. Click on it and you will get the larger first frame of the actual film, then, just click on the starter arrow and off you go. I have been visiting the Hebburn website for the past couple of decades or so and don't remember ever seeing it here but, I might have missed it.
The last two minutes of the film show a host of workmen emerging from the shipyard at walking pace! They must have been given strict orders to do that because normally they came out like a heard of stampeding buffalos. Get ready to do plenty of freeze framing because there are a few hundred faces...some of them are sure to be recognisable as your dad, granda or great granda…....enjoy!
