Geordie and his wife are listening to the wireless when the programme is interrupted by an emergency weather report - ‘A severe snow storm is approaching and all car owners must park their cars on the odd numbered side of the street to allow access for moving traffic.’ So, Geordie goes out and moves his car. Two days later, the same thing – ‘A snow emergency has been declared,’ blares the wireless, ‘Park your car on the even-numbered side of the street.’ Geordie goes out and moves his car. Three days later, ‘There will be two feet of snow today. Park your cars on the….,’ And there is a power cut. “Whaat will ah de?” a confused Geordie asks his wife. “This time,” she says, “why don’t ye just leave the car in the garage!”
