Geordie got into his car and drove to a farm on the outskirts of Hexham. When he got there he knocked at the door and a young boy about 9 years old opened the door. “Is ya Dad at home?” Geordie asked. “No, he isn’t,” the lad replied, “he went to Newcastle.” “Weel then,” Geordie said, “is ya Mam in?” The lad said, “No mister, she isn’t here neither. She went with me Dad.” “How about yor brother? Is he here?” Asked Geordie. “He went with me Mam and Dad.” Explained the boy patiently. Geordie stood there for a few seconds, shifting from one foot to the other and muttering to himself. “Is there anything I can do for you?” the lad sked, “I know where all the tools are, if you want to borrow one. Or maybe I could take a message for Dad.” “Weel it’s difficult,” answered Geordie, “ah really wanted te speak with ya Dad. It’s aboot yor brother getting me daughter pregnant.”
The young lad considered for a moment then said, “You would have to talk to dad about that. If it helps you any, I know Dad charges £500 for the bull, and £60 for the pig, but I really don’t know how much he gets for me brother Jack!”
