In 1850, this was ‘Sheep Field’, known as ‘Old Mans Close’, occupied by John Redhead, and leased from landowner Cuthbert Ellison.
Named after: Village in Northumberland, in England, and part of the Carr-Ellison Estate. It is situated to the north-west of Alnwick, near Eglingham.
