BIRTWISTLE AVENUE: Situated between Crawley Avenue (to the west), and Johnston Avenue (to the east).
18 homes and 5 commercial properties (shops). Built c.1950. Contains Birtwistle Avenue Shops.
In 1850, the west side of Birtwistle Avenue was arable land, known as High Pond; the east side was on land known as Low Pond Close, both occupied by John Redhead, and leased from landowner Cuthbert Ellison.
Named after: Rev Charles Herbert Birtwhistle: vicar of St Oswalds,1920 to 1936.
