If the DWP pays money to the deceased persons bank account by mistake after you have notified the death the money is not refundable!
Why do I know this? Well I got a letter today from the DWP, Debt Management (I notified the death on July 19th !!) asking for the return of the payment of about £139. No mention of the fact that it isn't legally repayable.
But they will tell you it isn't, if you phone which might be too late if you have already used the return envelope and Bank Giro Credit or made an online payment which you are urged to do!
Naughty. Disingenuous. Bordering on the dishonest.
It has the tinge of those fraudulent emails and phone calls that we all get.
What is becoming of moral responsibility in the society in which we now live.
I have simply written to the DWP saying "No".
