The following information is from the book, The Streets of Hebburn - if you can help update or correct it, please let me know, thank you:
CAMBRIDGE AVENUE: Cambridge Avenue covers a very large residential area which doesn’t start at Victoria Road East - as one might think - but at the north side of Hatfield Avenue, then past Redhouse Road, Nevilles Cross Road - then the road curves south west then passes Marr Road, Kings Avenue and then out onto Campbell Park Road on the west.
This land, just off Campbell Park Road, was previously part of the Golf Links.
96 residential properties (6 flats). 3 shops. 26 of these properties were built in 1950.
In 1850, this was arable land, known as ‘Forth Long Field’; occupied by John Redhead, and leased from landowner Cuthbert Ellison.
Named after: Cambridge University.
