Re: Another scam phone call - Not necessarily
I bought an electric toothbrush package at ASDA here in Gosforth a couple of years ago. Using the self service, I paid for it with my Barclaycard. Within a minute (I was still in the store) my mobile phone rang with a text message asking me if I had made the following purchases. Three items were listed the last being the electric toothbrush. Items 1 & 2 were unknown to me. Following their instruction I pressed key N for NO. I immediately received a phone call from barclaycard telling me my card was now cancelled as a fraud purchase had been attempted in California USA. I do not know how they do it but Barclaycard are technically "on the ball" and knew I could not be in ASDA Gosforth and in the USA at the same time.
I spoke with the company and expressed my gratitude for their extraordinary diligence. My card was replaced within a day or so and I have had no further problems of this nature. That there are scams and genuine notifications is just another difficulty with which we have to consider.
