We got of the train at 9.15 and headed along the M20 heading to the M25 and the Dartford crossing. The tunnels for North bound traffic.
They are building a new junction in one section so delays there. On towards the junction of the M20 with the M25, the Fun started, queues of traffic with loads of lorries all the way through the Dart tunnels.
From the Dart Crossing up to J8 M11 at Stanstead/ Bishop Stortford services. Very difficult to get into the services and park up. We had to go round the service roads twice to be able to park up.
Getting out of the services very problematic as long delays between J8 & J11 M11. We cur off West and up,to,the top end of the A14 via A10 etc., thus missing the M1 delays and the problems of the roadworks on the A14 at Cambridge.
After that the travel was not bad. However they do need to upgrade the A1 to a proper motorway.
We overnighted at Clumber Park c/van site as pushing on for the last 60 miles home would have a bit dodgy as Ihad been driving for 7 hours with only 45 min of stops. Not young anymore!
Ann & I discussed the journey North and we have decided that we will now only do the Hull Zeebrugge route for the next few years as the overall cost difference between that and the Tunnel is about £45 higher. This takes into account fuel, campsites, Crossing costs.
The Hull route only requires 3 days ( it’s only a 2 hour drive to Hull for us) travel to the South of France, while the Tunnel requires 5 days travel.
