My wife and I were in Jarrow last week and were parked outside of the old library building in the car park beside Morrisonís.
Reading the notice that the library was closed and had moved into new premises, we decided to go and check it out.
The library has moved into the Jarrow Focus building, a newer building just behind the old one.
On entering, we read the information board and found that the library was in the basement, so we pressed the button for the lift and waited and waited.
After a while, the lift finally arrived and we pressed the down button and waited and waited and waited. The doors eventually closed and the lift began to descend. It seemed to take ages to reach the basement and another age for the doors to open.
Walking out of the lift to enter the library, we passed the stairway, and looking up a flight of about ten steps, could see where we had been standing waiting for the lift.
It had taken us about two or three minutes to descend ten feet.
When we came out we used the stairs.
Try it, itís a fun experience, but take a packed lunch.
