I remember in the late 1970s when I was running a mobile museum service for South Yorkshire CC. I was giving a talk to a group of school children about the Scottish tribe mentioned above when I noticed one young lad with a shock of red hair. I innocently suggested that this could be a throw back from times past and that he might have Scottish ancestry. Well, this lad must have gone home with the story but something lost in the telling. We were doing a three day stint at this school and the next day his mother descended with murder on her mind (mine) for openly suggesting that she was having an affair with a big hairy Scotsman. I was mortified but suddenly burst out laughing. It took a long explanation for her to get the drift of my meaning and the possibility that red hair could pop up in any birth through the nature of genes. Anyway, I was able to leave the scene without personal injury.
