You cannot compare Charges on Tyneside with Merseyside, if so why not bring in the DART crossing etc.
If you had to cross the river for work so be it. Some people had to travel miles from Hebburn to get work. Some had to stay in digs during the week and get home at weekends.
If you were lucky, like me, the company paid for the digs but not the travelling costs. However I was on. Very good wage so I was far better off in spite of doing 200 extra miles a week. So I upped sticks and moved south.
I’m thankful I got a better job and a vastly improved lifestyle as a result.
Having said all that the reason I left Tyneside was that I worked in Pilgrim St. N/cle and the company was moving to Killinghall and I would have to use a car going through the Tunnel or Newcastle. I would have then have to run maybe a second car. OR move house to north of the Tyne.
A lot different from just getting the bus to Worswick St.
