I contacted ST Highways last year. After about three weeks and two reminders, they eventually got back to me.
I asked why there were 20mph signs painted on the roads at the BT building (towards the market area and the Alum House pub) and the entrance to Coronation Street (towards Asda), both in South Shields but no 20mph signage on posts to warn motorists. Also, there were no 20mph signs on posts or on the road travelling the other way from River Drive and the coast. I thought that it was confusing and illegal?
They replied that a 30mph limit was in force until 20mph signage will be erected soon.
The painted 20mph signs have been there for months and are getting worn away by traffic.
So I don't know what constitutes soon . . . .
