Re: the victoria jubilee
It's common knowledge that beer prices are the overall cause of demise. We have lost a few pubs in this neck of the woods (South Yorks) but those that have concentrated on serving a good meal are the best survivors. The sad things are the loss of traditional English meeting places and, of course, the old familiar buildings themselves. Buying relatively cheap beer in the supermarkets is one thing but drinking it at home is a bit insular. Many people must miss the warmth of having a pie and pint in their old local, not to mention the good old chin wag that went with it....."and we'll get oot the bones and the tanners start to fly, cos when ya suppin yi nivva na ya luck".....as Johnny Handle used to sing.
