Mac, this is all good 'chaff' as Cushy Butterfield would say. It might surprise you to know that I do a gig every Christmas for our sailing club and always have to sing 'Stottin doon the Waal' for a cockney pal of mine. He just can not get his tongue around the title...so funny.
I was curious about The Anson in Wallsend so rang them up this morning to ask about the name. It harks back to HMS Anson, launched on the Tyne c.1940 which in turn was named after Admiral George Anson...all to be found in wiki. I mistakenly thought it might have been named after Lt. Col. A.H.A. Anson VC, of Indian Mutiny fame.
