WW2 RATIONING, A TRUE STORY.
Posted by Stewart on January 12, 2020, 11:09 pm
Just after the 2nd world war during rationing my grandparents in Hebburn received a food hamper with all the ingredients to be able to make a Christmas type cake from relations in Australia, all the ingredients were duly mixed and the cake was baked and consumed with cups of tea. A week later a letter arrived explaining that a relation had died who had emigrated to Australia, their body had been cremated, unable to decide what to do with their ashes they had decided to put them with the cake ingredients as they were unsure what the UK Customs would do with the ashes. I am told that everyone who had the cake and tea enjoyed it but felt the cake was a little crunchy. A true story.
