1889 5th Feb. William Smith of Wardley was this night run over and killed by a train near Pelaw. His feet were completely severed from the body and his head badly injured.
1867 9th Feb. George Taylor a middle aged man was sent to prison for a month for stealing a hen from the fowl house of John Pattison of Windy Nook.

1915 18th Feb a Liverpool man John Richard Jones was today sentenced under the Defence of the Realm Act, to 8 days imprisonment for photographing a Navy cruiser in the Tyne near Bill Quay.
1884 23rd Feb an old man by the name of Ritson fell about 200ft to his death at Heworth Quarry late this evening. The terribly mangled body was recovered the following day
1864 25th Feb, Thomas Boyd a young married man had just commenced his shift at the Heworth Colliery this day when a fall of stone took place and killed him on the spot.
1887 14th March John lawson and William Carnigan were today charged with stealing pigeons from John Finney of Felling. Lawson was sent to Durham Gaol for 2 weeks and Carnigan fined 5 shillings.
1908 24th March. Joseph Noble was Hanged at Durham for the murder of John Patterson – The Windy Nook Murder of 1907. Nobles last words were ‘don’t hurt my neck.
