There was a punishment in Newcastle called the Newcastle Coat. It was a barrel worn like a jumper with the arms sticking through. In the days of Moot Hall, the prisoners were kept in the Keep dungeon and on a Sunday, people were charged 3d & 6d to go and see them! The story of a little girl who was allegedly beaten to death by prisoners in the Keep is false. It was made up and the guy admitted it..
