Re: More Newcastle facts - cholera..
When the area for Centre For Life was being prepared in the 1990s, many bodies had to be removed from the site. These were some of the victims from the Tyneside cholera epidemic. It was found that the bodies had all been buried in a vertical pose to enable maximum use of the space. As the cholera virus was still a threat, workers retrieving the remains of the dead had to wear special clothing and masks. Suitable reinternment took place Lemington.
