The Scots appeared to have been worried where his troops ( at Newcastle) were as they moved south over the boarder.
They seem to have referred to them as Geordies men. ( if the writer got it right ?)
Maybe it was the Scots that started calling people from Newcastle and then Tyneside “Geordies” and it stuck with the influx of Scots to Tyneside. A plausible theory ?
