Re: The Hebburn Flash
Hi John and Davy, exactly just a flash in the pan, loads of the lights haven't worked for donkey's years, I've walked my dogs down there for years and noticed the same thing, like so many art projects and other installations they soon go into dis-repair or neglect, a lot of photo opportunities for councillors and other dignitaries to get in on at the time. I personally think something like that should have been in the town centre where more people could see it, I've never seen many people venture down the riverside when it's dark, other than mainly youths with carrier-bags full of beer cans.
It was funded in the main part by The Arts Council, National Lottery and local councils/authorities, so yes our rates, taxes etc. but like so many things there is no contingency for maintenance, look no further than the shrubbery etc round the Hub/Hebburn Central, Fountain Square fountains, Hebburn Park, etc. etc. etc. surely the council should not initiate projects that are then going to be neglected after all the flag waving.
