Re: Some memories from the 1920's
Netty down the yard was bog standard for the colliery and old Hebburn. If we'd had eyes in our backsides we would have been very well read because the Evening Chronicle and Journal were our only toilet paper. People don't know they are born these days but that would have been said by our elders who had had to make do with the even worse 'night soil' system of their younger days.
In terms of good subject matter for this website, I think we are beginning to scrape the bottom. not unlike the feeling when our young and tender parts came into contact with the births and death columns of those daily newspapers.
